KYA Leaders Meet with Kwale County Agriculture CECM.
KYA's Agriculture and Livestock CS, Mariam Sawanda, and Finance and Economic Planning CS, Mwanasha Budzo recently met with Roman Shera, the Kwale County CECM for Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries. During the meeting, they discussed the objectives and initiatives of the Kwale Youth Assembly (KYA), particularly focusing on enhancing youth participation in the agricultural sector.
The CECM expressed strong support for KYA’s vision, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between government bodies and youth organizations. He pledged full cooperation in backing KYA’s initiatives, highlighting the county's commitment to nurturing young talent and fostering sustainable agricultural practices. This meeting marks a significant milestone in the effort to empower young people and integrate them into critical sectors such as agriculture and economic planning, furthering KYA’s mission of driving positive change and development in Kwale County.

Addressing Livestock Theft in Kasemeni Sub-Locations.
The communities of Upper and Lower Kasemeni sub-locations have been grappling with a surge in livestock theft, recently highlighted by an incident where six cattle were stolen in one night. In response to this ongoing issue, Mwereni Ward MP, Hon. Denis Kinyamasyo, convened a meeting with youth group leaders from the Kasemeni area to discuss potential solutions.
During the meeting, several resolutions were proposed to combat the thefts. Key measures included involving local administration in preventive efforts, promptly reporting theft cases to the police for thorough investigations, restricting roadside cattle marketing, and enhancing local security through increased community involvement.
The youth group leaders expressed their gratitude towards the Kwale Youth Assembly (KYA) for their proactive engagement at the grassroots level. They acknowledged KYA's role in advocating for human rights and bringing community concerns to government panels. This initiative, supported by organizations like SambaSports Youth Agenda, World Bank, United Nations Youth, USAID Kenya, and with the endorsement of H.E. Salim Mvurya, underscores a collective commitment to safeguarding the livelihoods of the local communities.

KYA Education CS Visits Schools in Msambweni Constituency.
Earlier today, KYA's Education CS visited Kinondo Secondary School in Msambweni constituency, where he met with Deputy Principal Mr. Munga. They engaged in a discussion about the critical role of parental involvement in education. Key issues addressed included the resistance from some parents regarding minor disciplinary actions and the pressing need to combat early pregnancies among students. The CS emphasized the importance of increased parental engagement to better support both the school and students.
Following this visit, the CS, accompanied by Juma Mwachiti, KYA Serjeant at Arms, and Bongwe Gombato MP, Hon. Binti, toured the Ukunda Vocational Training Center. They met with Principal Mr. Said Zamani and his team to discuss the school's challenges, such as a shortage of student materials and overcrowded classrooms. The school currently operates from a county building not initially intended for its use. The issues raised will be brought to the attention of the relevant authorities to ensure that the school receives the necessary support and infrastructure improvements.

KYA Leaders Convene Meeting with MP Hon. Gonzi Rai.
KYA Deputy President, H.E. Farida Mlongo, Prime CS, Hon. Hamadi Madzore, along with KYA leaders from Kinango Sub County and several MPs, held a crucial meeting with area MP Hon. Gonzi Rai. The discussion focused on addressing pressing youth issues in the region.
Key topics covered included:
Job Opportunities: Exploring employment avenues through TSC, DEVKI, and the Mwache Dam Project.
Electricity Connectivity: Improving access to reliable electricity.
Historical Land Injustices**: Addressing long-standing land disputes.
Youth Employment and Co-curricular Activities: Enhancing job prospects and supporting extracurricular involvement.
Awareness of TVETs and VTCs: Increasing knowledge about Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions.
Issuance of CDF Bursaries: Ensuring access to bursaries for students.
Hon. Gonzi Rai expressed appreciation for the comprehensive discussions and requested a two-week period to formulate a collaborative strategy with KYA to effectively address these issues.

Youth Football Trial at Shikaadabu Grounds.
KYA Education CS and Waa/Ng’ombeni MP attended a youth football trial at Shikaadabu grounds in Likoni, aimed at providing opportunities for youths who had not been admitted into secondary school. The event was honored by Mr. Peter, a teacher and the team coach of St. Anthony Boys Kitale.
We are pleased to announce that the trial resulted in the following placements:
4 boys will join St. Anthony Boys in Kitale.
4 boys will join Lugari Boys in Bungoma.
9 boys will join Lugusi School in Bungoma.
KYA is committed to ensuring more youths benefit from such programs and encourages stakeholders to support these initiatives.

KYA MPs Visit Hon. Omar Mwaduga MCA to Discuss Youth Affairs.
KYA Pongwe Kikoneni MPs, Hon. Mwanasiti and Hon. Khalfan Mohamed, visited the office of Hon. Omar Mwaduga, MCA of Pongwe Kikoneni Ward, to discuss important youth issues.
During the visit, Hon. Mwaduga highlighted the need for increased youth participation in public forums to propose legislation that benefits both the youth and the broader community. He stressed the importance of active involvement in shaping policies that address youth needs.
Additionally, Hon. Mwaduga encouraged local football teams to register under the Football Kenya Federation (FFK). He announced that 2 million shillings have been allocated for sports development, which will be distributed to active football teams in the form of resources.

KYA Education CS Meets with Kwale County Education CECM.
KYA Education CS recently paid a courtesy call to Kwale County Education CECM, Hon. Mishi Kaole, to discuss key education issues impacting the youth in Kwale County.
Key outcomes from the meeting include:
Facility and Staffing Improvements: The CECM agreed to enhance facilities and increase teaching staff at Kilulu Vocational School.
Addressing School Dropouts: Plans will be implemented to address the issue of school dropouts, ensuring that all students complete their education.
Bursary Distribution: There will be a potential increase in bursaries based on the county budget, with improvements in residency verification and inclusion of university students who have completed HELB forms.
Hon. Mishi Kaole committed to a closer collaboration with the Kwale Youth Assembly to advance youth agendas and provide ongoing support.

KYA Visits Deputy County Commissioner for International Youth Day Planning.
Following our planning meeting for the upcoming International Youth Day, we had the honor of visiting the office of the Deputy County Commissioner, DCC Lucy Ndemo. We were privileged to receive her invaluable advice on youth policy advocacy.
Key discussion points included:

Enthusiasm for Collaboration: DCC Ndemo expressed a strong desire to collaborate with us and highlighted the importance of unity among the youth in the county.

Life’s Seasons: She shared profound insights on the different seasons of life, both positive and challenging, and stressed the importance of remembering the good times even during difficult periods.

Leadership and Progress: The DCC encouraged the KYA to present leaders who recognize and appreciate the progress our country has made, acknowledging that while we are still striving for more, significant achievements have been realized.

Guidance and Encouragement: She provided extensive guidance and offered her support for our efforts, urging us to continue working together to advance the youth agenda in Kwale County.
We are deeply grateful for DCC Lucy Ndemo’s wisdom and support and look forward to a productive collaboration with her office to achieve our goals for the youth.

KYA President Meets with Plan International Kenya.
The KYA President recently visited Plan International Kenya for a significant meeting with Mr. Albert Mlamba, Programme Unit Manager for Kwale, and Kingsford Njeru, Plan Youth Wing Coordinator for Kwale. The discussion focused on exploring collaborative opportunities, particularly in youth and community policy projects.
Key Points from the Meeting:

Collaborative Projects: We explored potential collaborations on projects related to youth and community policies, aiming to address key issues and foster positive change.

Climate Action Project: Plan International expressed interest in involving the Kwale Youth Assembly in their climate action initiatives, providing an opportunity to contribute to environmental sustainability.

National Projects: We discussed possible involvement of the Kwale Youth Assembly in some of Plan International’s national projects, enhancing our capacity to impact broader initiatives.

Future Meetings: Another meeting was scheduled to delve deeper into strategies for effective collaboration, ensuring impactful service delivery to the youth of Kwale.
Mr. Mlamba shared valuable insights into the policy advocacy journey, which will guide our efforts moving forward. We are enthusiastic about the potential partnership with Plan International and look forward to working together to advance the youth agenda in Kwale. This collaboration represents a significant step toward achieving meaningful change in our community.

Planning Meeting for International Youth Day at Kwale Culture Center.
Kwale Youth President, H.E. Ommy Salim, along with KYA Speaker, KYA CS Roads Hon. Mohammed Ali, and the MP for Kubo South and Pongwe Kikoneni, joined other stakeholders at the Kwale Culture Center to plan for the upcoming International Youth Day on August 12th. This year’s theme is “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development.”
Highlights from the Meeting:
- Proposed Venue: Mvindeni Social Hall
- Digital Space Exhibition: An exhibition will be set up for youth and youth-serving organizations, ministries, and departments to showcase digital opportunities and innovations.
- Youth Showcasing: The event will feature local digital innovations by youth, providing them a platform to present their work.
- Promotion and Mobilization: The Kwale Youth Assembly is committed to promoting the event and mobilizing as many youths as possible to attend, ensuring widespread awareness of the day’s theme.
- Connecting Youth with Industry Experts: The event aims to connect youths with industry experts to provide guidance and support.
- Panel Discussions, Awards, and Recognition: There will be panel discussions and awards to recognize youths and organizations making significant contributions to digitalization in the county.
- Further Planning: Another planning meeting will be scheduled to finalize the event preparations.
